hi very interesting article, just would like to add that having done some historical research into our “poor house” i found a diet sheet for the inmates dated 1847. they were being served “lobscouse” and it was therefore later cut to our local name of “lobby” probably some time after this date. just thought it a very interesting find that gives a firm date to its history in stoke on trent……..

Interesting post. I’ve never clicked that these regional foods are related to industry. Not sure about other supermarkets but Swad Sainsburys sells Staffs Oatcakes.

We called this ‘stir pudding’ in Uttoxeter, the lumpier the better!

I only recently remembered that I used to have this as a child and checked with my mum to make sure I hadn’t imagined it as it’s a pretty unlikely pudding, but delicious!
